MINESWEEPERS 35
(Minensuchboote 35)

Minesweepers 35
1935 type minesweepers.

The design of the 1935 type minesweepers was based on the lines of the old World War I sweepers. These ships had a full load displacement of over 870 tons, were armed with two 10.5cm guns, and could reach speeds of up to 18 knots. They could also be fitted for minelaying and stow 30 mines. The hull was made of St 52 construction steel and divided into 12 watertight compartments. A double bottom covered 87% of the waterline length. M1 and M2 were fitted with Voith Schneider propellers, and the rest had two 3-bladed propellers of 1.75 m. diameter. The first nine minesweepers of this class were ordered on 22 November 1935, and overall, 69 units were commissioned between 1938 and 1943.
